CALLED UP IN 1914 TO SERVE IN THE 7th BATTALION OF THE SCOTTISH RIFLES ( No 1713 - PRIVATE.) DESERTED ON 3rd OCTOBER 1915 FROM RENFREW AS HIS FATHER HAD DIED.

AFTER FUNERAL AND GETTING HIS YOUNGER BROTHERS SETTLED, RE-ENLISTED ON 5th OCTOBER FRAUDULENTLY IN THE 82nd RESERVE BATTERY OF THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY ( No 110279 - DRIVER.) AND WAS WOUNDED IN FRANCE ON 16/11/1916 AND EVACUATED TO U.K. ON 17/11/1916. CONTINUED SERVICE UNTIL DISCHARGE ON 12/02/1919.

THE FRAUDULENT ENLISTMENT CAME TO LIGHT ON 21/02/1916 AND, AFTER MAKING A FULL CONFESSION, A TRIAL WAS DISPOSED WITH BY ORDER OF THE GOC 33rd DIVISION ROYAL ARTILLERY AND HE WAS HELD TO SERVE WITH THE RFA.
