Misc | On July 2nd 1865 Bishop Robert Cornthwaite of Beverley paid his first Epuscopal
visit to Whitby, where after seventy years od steady growth, he was addressed by
the Chairman of the New Church Committee, Mr Mathew Snowdon, regarding a new
and handsome church which would be an ornament to the town and a boon to the
increasing number of Catholic visitors who are amoung us in the summer.
