WILLIAM NELSON , son of LUKE NELSON (1788-1855) and ABIGAIL GARBUTT (1785-1838), was born on 5 July 1815 in WHITBY, NR YORKSHIRE. He was christened on 6 July 1815 in WHITBY, NORTH YORKSHIRE. Between 1830 and 1834 he was an APPRENTICE in THE "ABBOTSFORD" SHIP. Between 1834 and 1836 he was a 2nd MATE in THE "ENDYMION" SHIP. In 1836/37 he was a 2nd MATE in THE "LONDON" SHIP. In 1837/38 he was a 2 nd MATE in THE "LOYAL BRITON". Between 1838 and 1840 he was a MASTERS MATE in THE"FORTITUDE" SHIP. He married MARY ANN WARDALE on 18 October 1839 in PARISH CHURCH WHITBY NR YORKSHIRE. Between 1840 and 1844 he was a MASTER'S MATE in THE "LARPOOL " SHIP. Between 1845 and 1848 he was a THE MASTERS MATE in THE "EGLINEDINE ". He was described as BROWN HAIR, BLUE EYES, DARK COMPEXTION AND WAS 5 FT 4 1/2 IN TALL on 5 May 1845 in SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND. Between 1848 and 1851 he was a THE MASTER in THE " MAGNET " SHIP. Between 1851 and 1891 he was a MASTER MARINER in WHITBY, YORKSHIRE. He appeared in the census in 1861 in AT SEA, OFF FLAMBROUGH HEAD. From 25 October 1873 to 1 February 1875 he was a MASTER MARINER in " OTTERBURN ". From 9 August 1875 to 16 October 1875 he was a MASTER MARINER in "PORT WALLACE ". MARY ANN WARDALE , daughter of GEORGE WARDALE (1784-1858) and MARY PARKER (1779-1859), was born on 8 May 1814 in WHITBY. She was christened on 8 May 1815 in WHITBY, YORKSHIRE. She received first communion on 28 January 1827 in WHITBY.YORKSHIRE. 1 She appeared in the census in 1841 in CHURCH STREET WHITBY. She appeared in the census in 1861 in PROSPECT PLACE, CHURCH STREET, WHITBY. YORKSHIRE. Between 1861 and 1871 she was a MASTER MARINER'S WIFE in WHITBY.
