Joseph Bovill was born 1815 in Whitby North Yorkshire,the same age as William.

and was thought to have jointly owned a ship to-gether, either the Emerton or the Bordeaux,

like William he was living in Church Street in 1841 -1851, in 1841 he was a Joiner to trade, but appears as a Ship owner in 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881.

In 1861 - 1871 he had moved the family house to Esk Terrace, Whitby with his family. In 1881 he had moved to Ugglebarnby, 7 Sleights Hill, He had been thought by the Nelson Family to have vanished approx 1870 's with the ships money.In 1881he was still a ship owner, and he died in 1890.Whitby area

Have since found out that it was the "Lyra" that Joseph and William owned ( documented on "the Ancient port of Whitby " )in 1865, William continued to sail in Joseph's ships after 1865, so I don't think there is much credence in this tale.

offical number for the Otterburn is 199- 199 ton Ship. On 9 August 1875 WILLIAM was a MASTER MARINER in "PORT WALLACE ". William with the Port Wallce untill 16th October 1875.

Offical number for the Port Wallace was 468 a 218 ton ship. WILLIAM died of Prostatic Disease on 20 March 1893 in 7 GRAY STREET WHITBY NR YORKSHIRE. <i>Jane E Nelson, Daughter in Law Signed Death Certificate.</i>. WILLIAM was buried in WHITBY, LARPOOL CEMETERY.

From 22 July 1942 to 25 August 1942 WILLIAM was a THIRD OFFICER in m.v. TREVILLEY. He had the title 'MBE' on 27 April 1943 in ENGLAND. was awarded his MBE for taking command of the life boat when the Trevilley was torpedoed by U68- Kapt Karl- Friedrich - Mertan,12/9/1942 they made it through and were picked up off the Gold Coast after spending two weeks at sea, Dad spent his 21st birthday recovering in a mission. WILLIAM was educated at PRESIDENT addl. for R.N.C. FOR TRAINING from 24 May 1943 to 11 June 1943 in GREENWICH. PROBP. TEMPY. SUB. LIEUT.
