In Egton in 1673, Michaelmas Hearth Tax, there is an Edward Oxley and a Thomas Oxley- both with 1 hearth- could either be John's father.
In the 1720's there was two John Oxley's in this area, one in <b><u>Egton</b></u>, the other in Glaisdale.

In the name of God amen, I John Oxley of Heleshead in the Lordship of Egton in the county of York, Yeoman, being weak of body but perfect in memory and remember to thank God for it .I make and ordain this my last will and testament in manor and form following first I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker and redeemer and my body to be buried at the discretion of my good sons ------------- leave after ------ as to my worldly sons first is that my debt charges and funeral charges be paid.
Item – I give onto to my son Thomas one house and farm where lies in Ra.fas for his life but after him my wish is that it shall come to my son Joseph & his heirs for ever but my wish is whom he enters of it he shall pay to either of my daughters three …. Pounds.

But I put Robert Truit and my daughter Alis Oxley ….. in trust to so that none shall neither wrong my son Thomas nor abuse him.
