Quite unreadable, - can make out only a few bits</i>. In 1729 JOHN was a YEOMAN in HELESHEAD, EGTON, YORKSHIRE. He died in 1730 in EGTON VILLAGE.
In Egton in 1673, Michaelmas Hearth Tax, there is an Edward Oxley and a Thomas Oxley- both with 1 hearth- could either be John's father.
In the 1720's there was two John Oxley's in this area, one in <b><u>Egton</b></u>, the other in Glaisdale.

9. GEORGE NELSON , son of FRANCIS NELSON, married JANA PRESTON on 17 November 1729 in DANBY IN CLEVELAND, YORKSHIRE. He married ALICE RICKINSON on 21 January 1732 in EGTON. <i>Think this may have been George's second marriage - I have details of a George Nelson marrying Jane Preston on 17th of October 17/2930 in Danby Yorkshire, they had a son Francis born 4th of November 1730, who died 27th March 1731, Jane also died about this time as she died intestate and there is a probate for her- (June 1732) leaving everything to her husband George Nelson. </i>. GEORGE made a will on 9 September 1749 in AISLABY. <i>In the name of god, amen, I George Nelson of Ayslaby in the Parish of Whitby in the county of York yeoman and being of good and infirm in body ,of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding thanks been given into almighty god for the same. Do make public and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say I give and bequeath unto to my sons --- Francis George and William equally to be divided between thou share and share alike at their exportive ages of twenty one years all that my <b><u>kiessuaye</b></u> or <b><u>teuemoul </b></u> <b><u>seil nate</b></u> and being in Whitby in a certain <b><u>sheeter plaw</b></u> there called Baxtergate now in the possession of George Oliver to hold the same unto my said sons their <b><u>eens</b></u> and <b><u>adniere</b></u> for and during all such number of years as I have them in and which are yet to come and which are yet to come and <b><u>une</b></u> ****** and where as my nephew Joseph Oxley is indebted unto us in the sum of sixty pounds on his bond. ANN STANGER , daughter of UNNAMED ( - ), was born in 1760. OF LYTHE PARISH
down as 92 years of age (as would have been given by the person who registered the death). ANN appeared in the census in 1841 in CHURCH STREET WHITBY. <i>staying with her is a Dinah Farendale born 1786 and a James McLaren born 1826 a joiner apprentice, both are Yorkshire born.

30. ANN NELSON , daughter of GEORGE NELSON and ANN LAW, was born on 13 September 1775 in WHITBY, YORKSHIRE. She was christened on 22 September 1775 in WHITBY. She married Robert CORNER on 15 December 1799 in Easington CLEVELAND. She died.
Ann's father George died intestate, and there is a curon dated 6th March 1787 giving Eleanor Nelson custody of Ann, think Ann was in the custody of her Grandmother Alice Nelson nee Rickinson after George died, when Alice died, Eleanor went to court to get custody of Ann as she was not her natural mother, Eleanor is documented in the Trinity House Petitions as Eleanor Nelson aged 70 widow of George of Whitby in the year 1801.
The 6th day of March 1787 Anne Nelson a minor aged above 12 years- natural and lawful child of George Nelson of Eastington in the diocese of York deceased, was granted to Elenor Nelson widow according to the voluntry election of said minor- lawfully made of her before the Reverand Richard Robinson clerkgate. Then the said Elenor Nelson being first sworn befor this lawers gate.".

her daughter, Sarah, aged 37, a sailors widow, and it was Sarah who signed Luke's death certificate, think Luke and Mary may have been estranged. </i>. In 1861 - 1871 he had moved the family house to Esk Terrace, Whitby with his family. In 1881 he had moved to Ugglebarnby, 7 Sleights Hill, He had been thought by the Nelson Family to have vanished approx 1870 's with the ships money.In 1881he was still a ship owner, and he died in 1890.Whitby area
Have since found out that it was the "Lyra" that Joseph and William owned ( documented on "the Ancient port of Whitby " )in 1865, William continued to sail in Joseph's ships after 1865, so I don't think there is much credence in this tale.

From 22 July 1942 to 25 August 1942 WILLIAM was a THIRD OFFICER in m.v. TREVILLEY. He had the title 'MBE' on 27 April 1943 in ENGLAND. was awarded his MBE for taking command of the life boat when the Trevilley was torpedoed by U68- Kapt Karl- Friedrich - Mertan,12/9/1942 they made it through and were picked up off the Gold Coast after spending two weeks at sea, Dad spent his 21st birthday recovering in a mission. WILLIAM was educated at PRESIDENT addl. for R.N.C. FOR TRAINING from 24 May 1943 to 11 June 1943 in GREENWICH. PROBP. TEMPY. SUB. LIEUT.
